Hello White Elephant friends,
Do you know that an earthly paradise can really exist? We live in one!
The landscape is unique, the Lebombo mountains ancient and majestic, and lake Jozini beautiful. (And deep. And shimmering. And full of hippo, crocodiles, and tiger fish.) This is a paradise where people live close to nature, sensitive to their environment.
South Africa is a popular destination for many visitors - especially from Europe. However, much of KwaZulu Natal, traditional home of the Zulu nation, has remained largely undiscovered by the tourist masses.
KwaZulu Natal has many game parks, including those in Maputaland (also known as the “Elephant Coast”) on the border of Mozambique. The parks are well stocked with a variety of wildlife - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino – living in completely natural and unspoilt environments.
KwaZulu Natal Conservation Services, or EKZN Wildlife, is renowned for their model for nature and wildlife conservation. Lodges in the game reserves are built to strict environmental guidelines. There are also special eco-camps at which children are educated in the responsible management of nature and water resources. South Africa looks to its younger generation, the post-apartheid learners, for protection of its fragile and threatened ecologies.
White Elephant Safari Lodge (our own paradise) is one of the lesser known, established paradises, where people are encouraged to practice real conservation as part of their daily lives.
We feel it a privilege to live and work at White Elephant. Waking every day to the sight and sounds of the wilderness is something very special, and in our overcrowded world, becoming very rare. Sadly, so many of our visitors can only stay for one or two nights, and we feel they therefore miss out on many interesting attractions that White Elephant, and surrounding area, can offer. For this reason, we have packaged White Elephant to enable visitors to be able to spend more time with us, and be able to explore more of North Eastern Zululand and Maputaland.
For instance, we have on offer a 6 night “Best of Zululand” bush & beach package. This includes visiting our own wildlife and conservation projects in the Pongola Game Reserve, a day at Sodwana bay, deep sea diving the coral reefs off the Isimangaliso World Heritage Park, snorkelling or just relaxing and suntanning. During turtle season we can arrange a guided tour to see the Leatherback turtles come out on to the beach at night to lay their eggs.
We also include a trip to Kosi Bay mouth, in Maputaland, to visit the Thonga people observe their way of life, and their interesting traditional fishing kraals in the estuary and lakes.
Other packages include a 3 day walking safari, 4 night Birding package, 4 night Elephanting, 5 night Fishing package. For more info on our packages, contact Stephanie at White Elephant Reservations, Tel: +27 34 413 2489, Office hours, 8h00-16h00, Monday to Friday or After hours on Cell: +27 82 945 7173, or Email: email@example.com for rates and general enquiries or visit our website www.whiteelephant.co.za
Dr Barry Taylor (from the University of KZN), who has been updating our birding list, will be bird ringing at White Elephant from 25 March to 6 April 2011. To join Dr Taylor, we are offering all interested birders a special birding & bird ringing package. Please enquire with Stephanie or Nikki at Birdlife South Africa.
(And please enquire about our “Stay 3 nights – pay for 2” offer – valid until September 2011.)

Life is a journey, a safari made up of a myriad of small, precious moments.
In today’s hurried, stressed world, most of us overlook these little moments along the way. It is these moments that make life happy and worthwhile.
We need to re-adjust our focus from the journey’s destination to the ‘now’. Only then will these precious moments, the simple abundance and the magical simplicities that surround us become visible.
We at ‘White Elephant’ invite you to take time to see, feel, hear, sense and savour the small moments, to celebrate them with us, to re-awaken your soul.
At ‘White Elephant’ life is a celebration; a celebration of the moments, of the music and harmonies of nature, of simplicity and beauty, of passion from the soul.
